Q1. What is the difference between program students and non-program students?
→ Students officially enrolled in the program are eligible to select Korean Program courses during the first phase of course registration.
Please note that regardless of enrollment status, any student who completes the required courses and credits may apply for a Certificate of Program Completion.
Q2. Can I apply for the Korean Program while participating in another program?
→ Each student may enroll in up to two programs. It is allowed to hold multiple program statuses simultaneously.
Q3. If I already plan to extend my graduation, can I still apply for the program?
→ If it is assessed that you can complete all required courses before graduation, you are welcome to apply.
Q4. Do I need to submit a personal statement (autobiography)?
→ According to the current application regulations, you only need to complete the registration via the Credit Program Application System within the application period. No additional documents are required.
Restrictions
Q1. My application for credit recognition/transfer has been approved, but why am I still blocked from enrolling in certain courses?
→ Credit transfer/recognition approved by the college is only applicable when applying for the program certificate, and is not connected to the course enrollment system. If you wish to enroll in intermediate or higher-level courses but are blocked due to not having taken the prerequisite beginner-level courses, please request an add code from the course instructor after the semester begins.
Q2. I’m a program student and selected a certain course, but didn’t get in. Don’t program students have priority enrollment?
→ Although program students are granted priority for program-related courses, the number of seats is still limited. Therefore, final enrollment is based on the course assignment results from the Office of Academic Affairs.
Q3. Many courses have enrollment restrictions, making it difficult to register for courses in the first year of the program. Could this be adjusted?
→ Enrollment restrictions are in place to ensure students have the necessary foundation. To maintain the quality of instruction and ensure students without a Korean language background don’t fall behind, it’s encouraged to complete beginner-level courses before progressing.
Q4. If I didn’t take the Korean course last semester, can I still enroll in this semester’s course?
→ Please consult the course instructor. If the instructor grants permission, you may enroll using an add code.
Course Add Authorization (Add Code)
Students may enroll in program courses using an add code, provided they obtain the instructor’s authorization.
Q. Can NTU exchange students enroll in courses using an add code?
→ Yes. As long as you receive authorization and an add code from the instructor, you can add the course.
Inter-University Course Enrollment
Students within the NTU System must register for courses through their home university’s course selection system, according to that university’s regulations.
Non-tri-university students who wish to enroll in NTU courses must use the Inter-University Course Enrollment System to register online and print out the application form. After filling out the form, please submit it directly to the Office of Academic Affairs.
Q1. Can NTU exchange students enroll in courses using an add code?
→ Yes. If the instructor grants permission, you may use an add code to enroll in the course.
Q2. I want to take a certain course as an elective, but NTU’s system only allows 3 students and I couldn’t get in. I found that manual add requests are not accepted after the third week in the Tri-University system. Is there any other way (e.g., increased enrollment limit or add code) to enroll?
→ Please attend the class during the first week and ask the instructor for permission to join. If granted, the instructor will provide you with an add code for course registration.
Credit Program Certificate Application Instructions
Students who have completed all required courses and credits for the program should download the application form from the College of Liberal Arts website. Submit the completed application form, official transcript (please highlight the program courses), and any approved credit transfer/recognition documents to the Dean’s Office of the College of Liberal Arts (Room 303, Qin Building).
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the review process takes at least one week.※ The course codes of the completed courses must match the course codes listed in the official program curriculum. If any course does not match, you must also submit an approved “Credit Recognition Application Form” as supporting documentation. (You can check the required course list on each program’s page under “Program Guidelines > Course List.”)
FAQs
Q1. Can I complete the program credits first, and then apply for program enrollment to directly obtain the certificate?
→ The program encourages students to enroll early, but even if you are not officially enrolled in the program, you may still apply for the certificate as long as all required credits and courses are completed.
Q2. Will the program completion be noted on my diploma?
→ No. The diploma will not include any indication of program completion.
Q3. I have already completed my graduation procedures / graduated. Can I still apply for the certificate?
→ Yes. There is no deadline for applying for the certificate. You may apply after graduation, but the review process takes approximately 1–2 weeks, so please plan accordingly.
Fiiling Guide
Credits Waiving & Credits Transfer (Maximum 12 Credits)
Students may apply for credit transfer or course exemption for up to 12 credits in total. Please download the application form from the College of Liberal Arts website. After completing the form and preparing the required documents, submit them via the online application form before either the add/drop deadline or the final exam week.
Course Exemption: You may apply for exemption from required courses based on certified language proficiency test scores. A copy of the language certificate must be attached.
Note: Korean language certificates must be within their validity period at the time of application.
Credit Transfer: You may apply to recognize previously completed equivalent courses to fulfill required courses in the program. You must attach the course syllabus and transcript (please highlight relevant courses with a highlighter)
All applications are subject to review by the program committee and are not guaranteed to be approved.
Approved exemptions or credit transfers will not appear on your transcript.
※ These approvals are used only as a reference when applying for a Program Certificate, and have no effect on course registration restrictions. If you are blocked from registering for intermediate or advanced courses due to uncompleted prerequisites, you must request an authorization code from the instructor during the course add period.

Exemption via Language Proficiency
Q1. What courses can be exempted if I pass a TOPIK level?
→ The following exemptions may be applied based on TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) results:
Level 1 or above: Elementary Korean I & II
Level 2 or above: Intermediate Korean I, Korean Listening & Speaking I
Level 3 or above: Intermediate Korean II, Korean Listening & Speaking II
Final approval depends on your actual course record and review by the program committee.
Q2. I passed TOPIK, but I’m not sure I’ll receive the score report in time for the application deadline.
→ To facilitate timely review, we encourage submission before the add/drop deadline. However, if you miss the deadline, you may submit your application after receiving your certificate.
Q3. What’s the maximum number of credits I can get exempted through TOPIK?
→ A maximum of 12 credits can be granted via credit transfer or exemption. You may apply all at once, depending on your course history.
Q4. Will TOPIK-exempted courses appear on my transcript?
→ No. Exempted courses will not appear on your transcript, but they will be listed on the back of your Program Certificate with a note indicating “credit recognized.”
Q5. I already have a valid TOPIK certificate, but I’m being blocked from registering due to missing prerequisites. What should I do?
→ Because the exemption process is internal to the college, the course system will not recognize it. You will still need to request an authorization code from the instructor each time.
Q6. Can TOPIK-exempted credits count as free elective credits?
→ Graduation credit policies vary by department. Please consult your department academic advisor or teaching assistant for confirmation.
Credit Transfer for Equivalent Courses
Q1. I’m a freshman/first-year master’s student and plan to apply for the program next semester. Can I take courses now and get credit later?
→ Yes. If you take and complete a course before formally joining the program, it will still count and no further transfer application is needed.
Q2. My home department or general education offers a course that seems similar to one in the program. How do I know if it can be transferred?
→ Please submit a credit transfer application for program review. Approval is not guaranteed and will be subject to review by the program committee.
Q3. Can non-credit courses or workshops I joined (e.g., language camps) count toward the program?
→ No. Courses or workshops must provide credits, a syllabus, and a transcript to be eligible.
Q4. I took a program-required course before being accepted into the program. Do I still need to apply for credit transfer?
→ No. If the course is listed on the official program curriculum, and you’ve completed it, no additional credit transfer application is required.
